The people of Southern Kaduna have conferred the prestigious title of Grand Commander of Southern Kaduna (GCSK) on the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, in recognition of his contributions to national security, peacebuilding, and the promotion of unity across Nigeria.
The honour was bestowed on the Defence Minister during a colourful ceremony attended by traditional rulers, political leaders, community stakeholders, youth organisations, religious groups, and residents drawn from various parts of Southern Kaduna and neighbouring communities.
Speaking after receiving the award, General Musa expressed gratitude to the people of the region for what he described as a significant recognition of his service to the nation. He dedicated the honour to all patriotic Nigerians committed to peace and national development.
The Defence Minister described Southern Kaduna as a region blessed with enormous human and economic potential, noting that it has produced many distinguished citizens who have excelled in different fields of endeavour and contributed meaningfully to national growth.
He called on young people in the area to remain law-abiding and shun activities capable of fuelling violence, criminality, or social unrest. According to him, maintaining peace and security requires the collective efforts of government, communities, and citizens alike.
General Musa stressed that security should not be left solely to security agencies, urging residents and community leaders to continue supporting efforts to combat crime through intelligence sharing and vigilance.
“Security is a collective responsibility,” he said, while encouraging stakeholders to work together to eliminate insecurity and create an environment conducive to development.
The Minister also commended traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community groups for their role in providing timely information that has aided security operations, urging them to sustain such collaboration in the interest of public safety.
He further encouraged the people of Southern Kaduna to preserve the values that have long defined the region, including hard work, sacrifice, humility, service, and respect for the rule of law.
General Musa emphasized that peace, unity, and social cohesion remain critical to the nation’s progress and called for continued support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. He noted that the Federal Government had increased its developmental presence in Southern Kaduna over the past three years through various interventions aimed at improving the welfare of the people.
Earlier, Chairman of the Southern Kaduna Leaders Council, Elder Akau Moses, described the Defence Minister as an outstanding ambassador of the region whose achievements in the military have brought honour to Southern Kaduna and Nigeria as a whole.
Moses said General Musa’s record of dedication, professionalism, courage, and patriotism had earned him recognition both within and outside the country, making him a deserving recipient of the title.
He explained that the conferment was intended to acknowledge the Defence Minister’s contributions to national security and to celebrate his accomplishments as a role model for younger generations.
According to him, General Musa’s rise to the pinnacle of military leadership and his continued service in government have inspired many young Nigerians and demonstrated the possibilities that come with commitment, discipline, and selfless service.
The ceremony featured tributes from community leaders and stakeholders who praised the Defence Minister’s leadership and expressed confidence in his continued efforts to strengthen national security and promote peace across the country.
