ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, has called on political leaders, stakeholders, and citizens of Zamfara State to embrace unity and collective responsibility in advancing the state’s development and addressing its pressing challenges.
Matawalle, a former Governor of Zamfara State, made the appeal on Wednesday while receiving members of the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI), Zamfara State Chapter, during an advocacy visit to his office in Abuja.
The minister commended the association for its initiative in convening a summit aimed at fostering dialogue and generating solutions to critical issues confronting Zamfara State, describing the effort as timely and necessary.
According to him, sustainable progress in the state can only be achieved through collaboration, dedication, and a shared commitment to the common good.
“The future calls for dedication to the service of Zamfara State, to ensure that Zamfara becomes greater,” Matawalle stated.
He stressed the importance of setting aside political, ethnic, and other differences in pursuit of collective development goals.
“We must work together in all fields of human endeavour to make our dear state and our nation greater,” the minister added.
The visit by the AANI delegation formed part of consultations ahead of a major summit scheduled for July 2026, which is expected to bring together key stakeholders from across Zamfara State.
Earlier, the Chairman of AANI, Zamfara Chapter, Muhammad Mujitaba Isah, said the delegation visited the minister in recognition of his leadership credentials and contributions to public service at both state and national levels.
Isah noted that the association considered Matawalle’s experience as a former governor and current member of the Federal Executive Council invaluable to the success of the planned summit.
He explained that the group sought the minister’s guidance and insights as preparations intensify for the gathering, which is expected to focus on issues affecting the state’s socio-economic development and security.
“The visit is in recognition of the Minister’s statesmanship and exemplary leadership, both as former Executive Governor of Zamfara State and as a member of the Federal Executive Council,” Isah said.
The forthcoming summit is expected to attract policymakers, academics, traditional leaders, security experts, development practitioners, and other stakeholders who will deliberate on strategies to improve governance, strengthen security, and stimulate economic growth in Zamfara State.
Observers say the initiative comes at a critical time as stakeholders continue to seek lasting solutions to security concerns, economic challenges, and developmental issues affecting communities across the state.
The meeting underscored the growing role of policy-oriented organizations such as AANI in promoting dialogue, fostering consensus, and supporting efforts aimed at sustainable development and national cohesion.
