His Royal Majesty, Eze-Igwe Williams Ezugwu, has warmly congratulated Senator-elect, Chief Ikeje Asogwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on his victory in the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election conducted on Saturday, describing the outcome as a reflection of the democratic choice of the people of the district.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the respected traditional ruler commended the people of Enugu North Senatorial District for their peaceful conduct, maturity, and commitment to democratic values throughout the electoral process. He also applauded the security agencies, electoral officials, political parties, and other stakeholders whose efforts contributed to the successful conduct of the election.
The Eze Ogbozarra III of Opi Ancient Kingdom, Igwe of Ibagwa Opi, and Eze Ka Eze I of Idekeland Nsukka, noted that elections, while competitive, ultimately serve the higher purpose of strengthening democracy and advancing the collective welfare of the people. He therefore urged all contestants, political leaders, supporters, and 1stakeholders across party lines to set aside differences arising from the electoral contest and unite in the interest of the zone.
“Now that the election has been concluded and a winner has emerged, it is time for reconciliation, healing, and renewed commitment to the development of Enugu North Senatorial District. Democracy thrives when all stakeholders place the collective interest of the people above personal and partisan considerations,” he stated.
The monarch called on Chief Ikeje Asogwa to approach his new mandate with humility, inclusiveness, and dedication to service, stressing that the expectations of the people are high and require focused leadership, effective representation, and a commitment to addressing the pressing needs of the district.
He further appealed to all candidates who participated in the election to demonstrate statesmanship by accepting the outcome in good faith and working together to advance the socio-economic and infrastructural development of the senatorial district.
According to him, “The challenges confronting our people transcend political affiliations. What the people desire is progress, peace, economic empowerment, quality education, improved healthcare, enhanced security, and sustainable development. These objectives can only be achieved when leaders and citizens work together in unity.”
Eze-Igwe Ezugwu also encouraged the people of Enugu North Senatorial District to continue supporting democratic institutions and holding elected representatives accountable while remaining committed to peace, stability, and community development.
He expressed confidence that with cooperation among political actors, traditional institutions, civil society organizations, youth groups, women associations, and community leaders, the district would witness greater progress and prosperity.
The royal father prayed for divine wisdom, strength, and guidance for Chief Ikeje Asogwa as he prepares to assume the responsibility of representing the people of Enugu North Senatorial District in the Senate.
