ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Abubakar Malami governorship movement ahead of the 2027 elections received fresh momentum on Friday as the Nigeria Policy Group (NPG) declared that the former Attorney-General of the Federation represents a bold vision capable of delivering a safer, stronger and more prosperous Kebbi State.
In a statement signed by Yakubu Haruna, the group said growing support for Malami across the state stems from widespread belief that his experience, competence and national network place him in a strong position to reposition Kebbi for sustainable growth and development.
The group noted that security remains one of the most pressing concerns facing the state and argued that Kebbi requires leadership that can decisively tackle insecurity, improve intelligence gathering and strengthen cooperation between security agencies and local communities.
According to the statement, supporters of Malami believe that restoring security across the state is critical to reviving economic activities, protecting farmlands and businesses, and rebuilding public confidence.
“Security is the foundation upon which development is built. Kebbi deserves leadership that can guarantee the safety of lives and property while creating an enabling environment for investment and economic expansion,” the statement said.
The Nigeria Policy Group further highlighted agriculture as a key pillar of the development vision being projected around Malami’s potential governorship ambition.
The group said an administration under the former Attorney-General would prioritise policies aimed at supporting farmers through improved access to financing, modern farming techniques, irrigation systems and expanded market opportunities.
It also stated that the envisioned development agenda would encourage investment in small and medium-sized enterprises, stimulate industrial growth and create employment opportunities for the state’s growing youth population while expanding opportunities for women and entrepreneurs.
The statement stressed that sectors such as education, healthcare, road infrastructure and rural development would receive significant attention through transparent governance, prudent management of public resources and strategic partnerships with the private sector and development organisations.
According to the group, Malami’s extensive experience at the national level could serve as a major advantage in attracting federal projects, strengthening institutions and positioning Kebbi as a destination for investment and economic growth.
The Nigeria Policy Group also recalled Malami’s repeated assertion that leadership should be anchored on service, accountability, justice and measurable development outcomes.
It noted that the former minister has consistently maintained that Kebbi possesses enormous human and natural resources capable of transforming the state into one of Nigeria’s leading centres of agriculture, commerce and innovation if properly harnessed.
“As the 2027 governorship election approaches, the people of Kebbi have a historic opportunity to choose a future built on security, economic prosperity, quality education, improved healthcare, youth empowerment and inclusive governance,” the statement added.
The group said the growing movement around Malami reflects an increasing desire among many residents for a new era of development and unity in the state.
Political observers say conversations surrounding the 2027 governorship race in Kebbi are expected to intensify in the coming months, with governance, security and economic development likely to dominate public discourse as stakeholders begin to position themselves ahead of the crucial election.
For the Nigeria Policy Group, however, the vision associated with Abubakar Malami represents “a shared hope for a safer, more united and more prosperous Kebbi State.”
