OWERRI, IMO — The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Imo State Chapter, has congratulated Governor Hope Uzodimma on his recent international recognition in the United Kingdom, describing the honour as a global endorsement of his administration’s developmental strides and visionary leadership.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Deputy National President of ALGON and Chairman of ALGON, Imo State Chapter, Hon. Toni Adikibe, on behalf of the 27 democratically elected local government chairmen in the state.
According to the statement, the governor’s conferment with a meritorious international honour by the South Carolina House of Representatives, United Kingdom Chapter, and his historic address at the House of Lords in London, underscore the growing international recognition of the achievements of the Uzodimma administration.
ALGON noted that the distinction, which it said places the governor among a select group of only 40 Africans to receive the recognition, reflects what it described as the global appreciation of the administration’s governance philosophy and developmental agenda.
The body attributed the recognition to more than six years of implementation of the governor’s 3R Agenda of Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Recovery, which it said has transformed infrastructure and public service delivery across the state.
The statement highlighted several projects executed by the administration, including the reconstruction of over 600 kilometres of urban and rural roads, the Assumpta Twin Flyover, the establishment of the Orashi Energy Free Trade Zone, investments in healthcare infrastructure, digital transformation initiatives and urban renewal programmes.
It maintained that these interventions have repositioned Imo State as an emerging model of sub-national development and strengthened its profile within Nigeria and the international community.
“These interventions have repositioned Imo on the world map as a model of purposeful leadership and have redefined the benchmarks of sub-national development in Nigeria, especially across the Imo local government areas,” the statement said.
The association further stated that the international honour should be viewed not merely as an award but as an affirmation of a governance approach centred on improving the welfare of citizens through people-oriented policies and measurable development.
Speaking on behalf of the state’s grassroots leadership, Hon. Adikibe said the impact of the governor’s programmes is evident across the 27 local government areas, citing improvements in rural road infrastructure, rehabilitation of healthcare facilities and agricultural support initiatives.
“As custodians of government at the grassroots, we are particularly gratified that this global commendation mirrors the tangible realities in our communities. The developmental footprint of the Government of Hope is visible across the 27 LGAs,” he stated.
Adikibe described the governor’s recognition as “a global testament to service, sacrifice and visionary statesmanship,” adding that it validates his commitment to building an inclusive and prosperous Imo State.
The ALGON chairman reaffirmed the commitment of the 27 local government chairmen to continue working closely with the state government in advancing development across all communities.
He said the council chairmen remain aligned with the administration’s vision of ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach every part of the state, including the most remote communities.
The association also expressed confidence that Governor Uzodimma’s continued leadership would further consolidate the state’s development trajectory and strengthen its position as a model of good governance in Nigeria.
The statement concluded with prayers for divine wisdom, strength and good health for the governor as he continues to lead the state.
