BENDE, ABIA STATE — Traditional rulers in Bende Local Government Area have reaffirmed their commitment to an existing power-sharing arrangement for the Bende Federal Constituency, declaring that the House of Representatives seat should rotate back to Bende North in 2027 while endorsing businessman and philanthropist, Dr. Chima Desmond Anyaso, popularly known as OFUJI, as their preferred candidate.
The position was made known during a courtesy visit by Dr. Anyaso and members of the OFUJI Campaign Organisation to the traditional institution, where the monarchs reiterated their resolve to uphold what they described as an equity-based political arrangement designed to promote fairness, peace and unity across the constituency.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, HRH Eze Uwakwe Ukaegbu disclosed that the Bende Council of Traditional Rulers had reached and signed an agreement establishing the rotational principle for the federal legislative seat between the two political blocs that make up the constituency.
“As custodians of our customs and tradition, we have signed an agreement that the House of Representatives seat will return to Bende North in 2027,” the royal father said.
He explained that the decision aligns with the eight-year rotational understanding adopted to guarantee balanced political representation within the Bende Federal Constituency, stressing that the traditional institution would remain committed to the agreement.
Eze Ukaegbu described Dr. Anyaso as a credible leader with the capacity to represent the constituency effectively, referring to him as “God’s choice for 2027.” He also commended the philanthropist for his continued support for the administration of Abia State Governor Alex Otti and urged political stakeholders to respect the zoning arrangement in the overall interest of peace and development.
Responding, Dr. Anyaso expressed gratitude to the traditional rulers for their confidence and blessings, describing their support as a demonstration of commitment to justice, equity and fairness.
He particularly praised Eze Ukaegbu for what he called his unwavering dedication to truth and principled leadership, assuring the royal fathers that his campaign would focus on issues affecting the people rather than divisive politics.
According to him, his aspiration is anchored on quality representation, accelerated development and inclusive governance that would benefit every community within the federal constituency.
Members of the OFUJI Campaign Organisation described the endorsement as a significant morale booster ahead of the 2027 general elections, arguing that the support of the traditional institution provides greater clarity on the long-debated zoning arrangement and reinforces calls for political stability within the constituency.
Bende Federal Constituency is made up of Bende North and Bende South, with the rotation of the House of Representatives seat remaining a recurring issue among political stakeholders seeking equitable representation between the two blocks.
Political observers believe the reaffirmation of the zoning agreement by the traditional rulers is likely to shape political alignments ahead of the 2027 polls, as aspirants intensify consultations and grassroots mobilisation across the constituency.
