OSOGBO, OSUN STATE — Governors Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State and Monday Okpebholo of Edo State on Wednesday spearheaded a major mobilisation of Kogi indigenes and other non-indigene communities resident in Osun State in support of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The high-profile rally, which drew thousands of APC supporters, community leaders, market women, youth groups and non-indigenes, underscored the ruling party’s intensified campaign to consolidate support across diverse ethnic communities as the election approaches.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Ododo urged Kogi indigenes and other residents to reward the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by voting overwhelmingly for the APC candidate, arguing that the party’s performance in government provides sufficient justification for renewed public confidence.
According to him, governance should be assessed on the basis of measurable achievements rather than political rhetoric, insisting that the APC remains committed to delivering development-oriented policies across the country.
“Governance is not by propaganda; governance is serious business. Our campaign is issue-based. Tell us what your party has done for the people, and we will tell you what the APC has done,” Ododo declared.
The Kogi governor highlighted what he described as key interventions of the Tinubu administration in Kogi State, including the approval of the Kogi International Airport, the establishment of a Special Agro-Processing Zone and a Free Trade Zone, rehabilitation of critical federal highways, enhanced security support and increased federal investments aimed at strengthening sub-national development.
He described President Tinubu as a leader committed to equitable national development and urged eligible voters not to be swayed by intimidation or misinformation during the election.
“Don’t be intimidated. On August 15, go out, cast your vote for the APC, let your vote count, and show Mr. President our appreciation for his unwavering support to our people,” he said.
Speaking during a meeting with members of the Igala community in Osogbo, the North Central Representative on the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Board of Trustees, Dr. Ocholi Hassan Abdulrahman, called on Igala sons and daughters residing in Osun State to deliver overwhelming support for the APC and its governorship candidate.
Dr. Abdulrahman described himself as a beneficiary of President Tinubu’s inclusive leadership, citing his appointment to the TETFund Board of Trustees as evidence of the administration’s commitment to recognising competence irrespective of geographical background.
He maintained that the Igala Kingdom had benefited significantly under the APC-led Federal Government and urged members of the community to reciprocate by supporting the party in the Osun governorship election as well as the 2027 general elections.
According to him, voting for Oyebamiji represents support for continuity, progressive governance and sustained development, while also expressing appreciation for what he described as the Federal Government’s commitment to the welfare and advancement of the Igala people.
Also present at the rally were the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, alongside other senior APC leaders, who reaffirmed the party’s determination to secure victory in the August 15 governorship poll.
The APC leaders called on party supporters to remain united and ensure a peaceful, issue-based campaign throughout the remaining days of the electioneering period.
The rally witnessed a large turnout of party faithful, Kogi and Edo indigenes, market associations, youth organisations and other non-indigene groups resident in Osun State, many of whom pledged their support for the APC candidate and expressed confidence in the party’s chances at the polls.
The August 15 governorship election is expected to be one of the most keenly contested off-cycle elections in the country, with political parties intensifying campaigns and grassroots mobilisation in a final push to win over undecided voters.
