BIRNIN KEBBI, KEBBI STATE — The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Kebbi State Chapter, has commended Governor Nasir Idris for the safe release of Justice Faruk Hassan Bunza, a Kebbi State High Court judge abducted along Zogirma Road, pledging continued intelligence sharing and collaboration with security agencies to strengthen the state’s security architecture.
ALGON, which represents the 21 local government areas of the state, described the judge’s release as a major relief and a demonstration of the state government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
In a congratulatory message issued by the State Chairman of ALGON, Hon. Dahiru Ambrusa, on behalf of ALGON Kebbi State Chapter and the 21 local government areas of the state, the association said Justice Bunza’s return after eight days in captivity had brought immense relief to his family, colleagues in the judiciary and the people of Kebbi State.
The judge was reportedly abducted on Sunday, July 26, 2026, along Zogirma Road and regained his freedom after spending eight days in captivity.
ALGON attributed the successful outcome to what it described as the swift response and security efforts of the Idris administration, while also commending security agencies operating in the state.
“We thank God Almighty for sparing the life of Justice Bunza and for bringing him back to his family, the judiciary, and the people of Kebbi State. We also appreciate the security agencies working tirelessly under your leadership,” the association stated.
While celebrating the judge’s safe return, ALGON expressed concern over other residents who may still be held by kidnappers across Kebbi State and the country.
It appealed for intensified efforts to secure the release of all persons still in captivity, urging security agencies to sustain operations aimed at dismantling kidnapping networks and other criminal groups.
The association said local governments have a particularly important role to play in strengthening security because they are closest to communities where criminal activities and security threats often emerge.
According to ALGON, Kebbi’s geographical position further underscores the need for1 sustained inter-governmental and cross-border security cooperation.
The state shares boundaries with Sokoto, Zamfara and Niger states, while also having international borders with the Republics of Niger and Benin, a situation the association described as presenting a complex security challenge requiring continuous intelligence gathering and collaboration.
“As Local Governments, the very hosts of these dastardly acts, and with three Nigerian states sharing boundaries with Kebbi State—namely Sokoto, Zamfara, and Niger State—alongside additional international borders with the Republics of Niger and Benin, this presents an existential challenge that demands continuous collaboration,” ALGON stated.
The association consequently pledged its commitment to intelligence sharing and closer collaboration with security agencies to strengthen surveillance across communities and border areas.
It said the objective was to make Kebbi State and its boundaries increasingly difficult for kidnappers, bandits and other criminal elements to operate.
ALGON further linked security to the state’s economic development, stressing that a secure environment is essential for attracting investment, promoting commerce and improving the welfare of residents.
“The development of our communities is a key priority of His Excellency, and we are committed to supporting all efforts to make Kebbi investment-friendly and secure,” the association stated.
ALGON reaffirmed its confidence in the state government’s efforts to maintain peace and security, while urging residents and community stakeholders to continue supporting legitimate security initiatives.
The association also offered prayers for Governor Idris, asking for continued wisdom and strength as he leads the state, while expressing hope that all other victims of abduction would regain their freedom safely.
