The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Kebbi State Chapter, has commended Governor Nasir Idris for what it described as a transformative approach to grassroots development, saying his administration has redefined governance across the state’s 21 Local Government Areas.
The Kebbi State ALGON Chairman, Hon. Dahiru Ambrusa, gave the commendation in a birthday message to Governor Idris, popularly known as Kauran Gwandu, on behalf of the 21 local government councils in the state.
Ambrusa said Governor Idris’ administration had successfully translated its four-point agenda into tangible development projects and social interventions reaching communities across the state.
According to him, the governor’s leadership has significantly narrowed the gap between state-level policies and grassroots development, with the impact visible in infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, security and economic empowerment.
He said the administration’s investment in security, particularly through Operation Farautar Tauri, had strengthened the capacity of local authorities and communities to combat insecurity and restore confidence among farmers.
“The provision of operational vehicles, allowances and community support has enabled our 21 Local Government Areas to reclaim farmlands and restore normalcy. Today, farmers in Argungu, Zuru, Yauri and communities across the emirates are returning to their fields with renewed confidence,” he said.
On infrastructure, the ALGON chairman highlighted ongoing township road projects in Birnin Kebbi, Jega, Gwandu and Bunza, as well as the construction of rural feeder roads connecting more than 150 communities.
He said the projects had improved movement and strengthened local commerce, while urban renewal initiatives and new motor parks were creating employment opportunities for young people.
Ambrusa also commended the administration’s interventions in the health sector, particularly the revitalisation and equipping of 200 Primary Health Care Centres, one in each political ward.
He said the initiative had brought maternal and child healthcare closer to rural communities, while monthly support for vulnerable households had provided additional relief for residents facing economic hardship.
According to him, the governor’s interventions in education have equally produced significant results, including the recruitment of 2,000 teachers and renovation of 800 schools across the state.
He added that the scholarship programme supporting 1,000 Kebbi indigenes locally and abroad was an investment in human capital development and the future of the state.
The ALGON chairman further noted that the administration’s youth and women empowerment programmes had reached thousands of beneficiaries through micro, small and medium enterprise grants, agricultural inputs and skills acquisition initiatives.
He said the distribution of tractors, fertiliser and solar-powered irrigation pumps had helped stimulate agricultural production, while market reconstruction projects across the 21 LGAs were providing improved platforms for traders and small businesses.
Ambrusa described Governor Idris’ commitment to local government autonomy and the timely release of allocations as one of the administration’s most significant achievements.
He said the policy had strengthened the ability of local government chairmen to execute community-based projects and respond more effectively to the needs of residents at the grassroots.
“Your Excellency, your greatest innovation is your fidelity to local government autonomy and timely release of allocations. This has enabled chairmen to execute ward-level projects and deliver governance that listens, builds and endures,” he said.
The ALGON chairman said the 21 local government councils remained proud of the governor’s leadership and the development strides recorded across the state.
“As ALGON, we salute a leader whose benchmark is accountability, whose compass is service, and whose legacy is being written in the lives of our people across all 21 Local Government Areas,” Ambrusa said.
He prayed for continued good health, wisdom and strength for the governor as he leads the state and works towards completing ongoing development projects.
“May the Almighty grant you sound health, uncommon wisdom and the strength to complete the great work you have begun,” he added.
