The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Isoko North Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Engr. Orobosa Ashakah, has intensified his grassroots development efforts with the installation of modern solar streetlights at the Ozoro Daily Market.
The intervention, which extends across different sections of the market and adjoining streets, is aimed at improving security, enhancing visibility and creating a more conducive environment for traders, customers and residents.
The solar lighting project is also expected to support commercial activities beyond normal daylight hours by giving traders and shoppers greater confidence to conduct business in a safer and better-illuminated environment.
Ashakah, who is seeking election into the Delta State House of Assembly, said the project was motivated by his desire to make a practical contribution to the development of Isoko North even before assuming elective office.
Speaking during the installation, he described the Ozoro Daily Market as a major economic centre serving the people of Isoko Nation and stressed the need to provide traders with an environment that supports both economic growth and personal safety.
“Ozoro Daily Market is the economic heartbeat of Isoko Nation. Traders deserve to do business in a secure and well-lit environment. This is the kind of leadership Isoko North needs — practical, people-centred and immediate,” he said.
The APC candidate further argued that community development should not be viewed exclusively as the responsibility of government, calling on individuals, businesses and corporate organisations to complement public-sector efforts through interventions that directly improve the lives of residents.
He said his approach to community development was anchored on identifying practical challenges and providing solutions capable of producing immediate benefits for the people.
The project drew commendation from market women, traders and community leaders, who expressed appreciation for the intervention and described the installation as a welcome development for the busy commercial centre.
Some beneficiaries said the improved lighting would enhance security, increase patronage and enable traders to operate with greater confidence during the evening period.
The beneficiaries also noted that the intervention demonstrated the potential impact of responsive leadership at the grassroots, particularly when individuals deploy their resources toward addressing pressing community needs.
The market lighting project forms part of Ashakah’s broader community interventions in Isoko North, which have reportedly focused on areas including security, youth empowerment and support for small businesses.
Ashakah maintained that occupying public office should not be a prerequisite for contributing to community development, stressing that public-spirited individuals have a responsibility to support initiatives that improve the welfare of their communities.
He added that sustainable development could only be achieved through a collective effort involving government, private citizens, businesses, community leaders and other stakeholders.
According to him, the ultimate objective is to build communities where people can pursue their livelihoods in safer, more productive and dignified conditions.
