BENDE, ABIA STATE — Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Dr. Chima Anyaso, popularly known as OFUJI, has declared that public office should be treated as a responsibility to the people rather than a means of personal livelihood.
Speaking at the flag-off of his campaign, Anyaso said his ambition to represent Bende in the House of Representatives was driven by a desire to deliver meaningful development to the constituency and change the way politics is perceived by young people.
“I am more interested in fixing Bende so that our young people don’t see politics as a means of livelihood, but they should understand that this is service,” he told supporters.
That message has become central to what his campaign describes as the OFUJI Project, a platform built around service-driven representation, youth empowerment and community development.
From 184 Wards To 13
Anyaso said his relationship with the people was built through extensive grassroots engagement, recalling that he had previously toured all 184 wards across Abia State.
“My popularity was as a result of the fact that I have toured the entire 184 wards in Abia. If we can do 184 wards in Abia, 13 wards is not going to be difficult,” he said.
According to his campaign team, he is now taking that same grassroots approach to Bende, with the campaign reaching communities across the constituency, including Alayi, Igbere, Item, Itumbauzor, Umuhu, Bende, Uzuakoli, Umuimenyi/Nkpa and Ozuitem.
For the OFUJI campaign, the objective is to make representation measurable through tangible impact and sustained engagement with constituents.
A “Divine Assignment” Requiring Hard Work
While describing his political project as a divine assignment, Anyaso stressed that faith must be accompanied by commitment and action.
“Every divine assignment requires human commitment, organisation, sacrifice and hard work,” he said.
According to him, this philosophy informs the organisation of his campaign team as it takes the message of the OFUJI Project to village squares, markets and youth gatherings across the constituency.
At the heart of the project, he said, is the conviction that public office is not a personal entitlement but a responsibility entrusted to elected representatives by the people.
He also stressed the importance of ensuring that elected representatives remain connected to their constituents rather than becoming detached from the communities they were elected to serve.
Challenging The Old Politics
The OFUJI campaign is presenting its candidacy as an alternative to what it describes as an old approach to politics, with emphasis on service-driven representation, youth empowerment and community development.
The message is also a direct challenge to the perception that political office exists primarily for the benefit of politicians.
For a constituency seeking a different approach to representation, Anyaso is asking voters to reconsider what they should expect from those elected to serve them.
The campaign is urging voters to support the Labour Party and Dr. Chima Anyaso for what it describes as inclusive representation.
For OFUJI, the journey toward changing the political narrative in Bende has already begun.
