Chima Anyaso UNGA 81 New York engagements have shifted Bende politics beyond local campaigns. The Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency is leveraging the United Nations General Assembly to push diaspora partnerships.
Dr. Chima Desmond Anyaso held strategic meetings on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly. The meetings took place in New York as world leaders gathered for UNGA 81.
Anyaso Meets Ambassador Are And Dabiri-Erewa
Sources said Anyaso met separately with two key officials. He met Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States, Ambassador Lateef Kayode Kolawole Are. He also met the Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM, Hon. Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, OON.
Ambassador Are heads Nigeria’s diplomatic mission in Washington DC. Dr. Dabiri-Erewa oversees federal engagement with over 17 million Nigerians abroad. Both officials commended Anyaso’s global approach to local development.
Discussions focused on Bende’s huge youth population and entrepreneurial talent. In addition, they focused on agricultural potential and diaspora investment. The aim is to connect Bende to expertise and networks of Nigerians in the United States.
Beyond Politics To Development
Dr. Anyaso is a prominent businessman and philanthropist. He is the Labour Party flagbearer for Bende Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 elections. He said his presence in New York is intentional.
According to him, representation must go beyond Abuja. Therefore, he wants to learn and build relationships. He also wants to expose Bende to global best practices in job creation, education, healthcare and SME development.
“For us in Bende, representation must go beyond Abuja. We must think globally if we want to develop locally,” Anyaso said.
“Our people in the diaspora have so much to offer, from mentorship to investment to technology transfer. My job is to build those bridges now, so that when we get the mandate, we can hit the ground running,” he added.
Shift To Forward-Looking Model
Observers note that the move signals a new direction for constituency politics. It shows a shift from traditional politics to a development-driven model. Consequently, diaspora collaboration becomes a tool for local transformation.
Meanwhile, Anyaso is expected to attend more events before UNGA week ends. He will participate in diaspora business forums and investment roundtables. Therefore, more partnerships for Bende may emerge from the New York meetings.
