The prolonged blackout that threw parts of Nkpa in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State into darkness will soon be over, following the intervention of the Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, popularly known as Ofuji.
Dr. Anyaso has mobilized engineers to site to restore the vandalized electricity infrastructure that has left several Nkpa communities without power for months.
The intervention is coming less than three months after the people of Nkpa made a passionate appeal to him during a town hall meeting. At the meeting, Engr. Chimezie Ikebuiro, who spoke on behalf of the Nkpa people, had called on Dr. Anyaso to assist in restoring power to the area. Dr. Anyaso promised to intervene.
Today, that promise has become reality.
The ongoing work covers the full restoration of the vandalized electricity line from Amediaba to Amaegbuato. The project will also see the energization of the transformer recently donated to Amediuku community by the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, with the aim of extending electricity across Nkpa.
Reacting to the development, a community leader and Chairman of the Works Committee of Nkpa Development Union, Deacon Chief Charles Madubuike, Ebekue Dike I of Nkpa, commended Dr. Anyaso for responding with his personal resources even before assuming public office.
Similarly, the President-General of Amediuku Nkpa Community, Mr. Agoha Uchenna, thanked Dr. Anyaso for the intervention, saying the people of Amediuku adopted him as their son from the day the appeal was made, and that the project has further cemented the bond between them.
Also speaking, the Director-General of the Chima Anyaso Campaign Organization and illustrious son of Nkpa, Pastor Okechukwu Dike, Eriwe-Echeta, said the project is a direct response to the needs of Nkpa people as presented during the town hall meeting. He thanked Dr. Anyaso for keeping his word.
Members of the Chima Anyaso Foundation, led by former Commissioner for Boundary and Conflict Resolution, Hon. Chief Mascot Imo Obike, were on ground to supervise the restoration work.
The team was later hosted by Deacon Fidel Chukwuemeka Ochiobi at his residence in Nkpa.
