In what political observers have described as unprecedented in the history of Bende Federal Constituency, the Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal House in 2027, Dr. Chima Desmond Anyaso, popularly known as OFUJI, has signed a binding prosperity contract with the people and vowed to serve for only two terms.

Anyaso made the declaration on Tuesday during the public presentation and signing of his blueprint tagged “The Bende Prosperity Contract – Walk With Me” before traditional rulers, President Generals, religious leaders, youth groups and stakeholders from all 13 wards of Bende.

This Is Not Manifesto Full Of Big English, It Is A Contract — Anyaso

Unlike the usual political manifestos, Anyaso presented the document as a legal and moral covenant that gives the people the right to hold him accountable if he fails. According to him, the contract is written in plain language.
“This is not a manifesto full of big English and bigger lies. It is a contract. A covenant between me and you, written in plain words so that even our children can read it and hold me to it,” he said.

The 10-point contract covers agriculture, youth and enterprise development, quality education, healthcare, road infrastructure, women inclusion, sports, security and environmental sustainability.

I Will Not Seek Third Term, Will Support Ikwuisi Candidate — Ofuji

In a move that sent the crowd into jubilation, Anyaso publicly committed to respect the rotational understanding between Umunna and Ikwuisi blocs, pledging not to seek a third term.
“I will respect that understanding. I will serve my term with the knowledge that power is not personal property. I will not seek a third term. At the appropriate time, I will support an Ikwuisi candidate to take up the responsibility of representing Bende. Leadership must create successors, not permanent occupants,” he declared.
He took a swipe at the politics of deceit where public-funded projects are presented as personal favours, stressing that any project he attracts from Abuja belongs to the people.

Also speaking, Abia State Labour Party Chairman, Hon. Peter Azubuike, LP Chieftain Chief Emeka Kalu (ECK), and the President General of Item, Prince Okenwa Ichie who spoke on behalf of all Umunna PGs, described the signing as the first of its kind in Bende and assured of massive support.

“When a project is funded with public money, and a man stands up to claim he single-handedly ‘gave’ it to you as a favour, that is not leadership. That is deceit.”

Do Not Be Afraid, Power Belongs To You — Anyaso Tells Supporters

Charging the people to reject intimidation and electoral violence, OFUJI thundered:
“Do not be afraid. Do not allow anybody to intimidate you because you have chosen to support me. No election is worth your life. We are winning this election! The power belongs to you.”
The event received spiritual backing with a sermon by the District Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Umuahia North, Rev. James Ndukwe, who described Anyaso as a humble leader God will elevate.

On his part, the DG of the Campaign, Pastor Okechukwu Dike, said the essence of the gathering was to let Bende people know that Anyaso wants to be held responsible for every promise.

The Mayor of Bende LGA, Hon. Uwabunkonye Bassey, said: “When you see a true leader, you don’t need to grumble. I am going home to tell my people that a true son has come. There will be no rigging in Bende.”

Governor Alex Otti, represented by Prof. Ijeoma Iheukwumere, conveyed his goodwill message.

With the signing, Anyaso concluded: “Read it, question it, keep it. And if you give me your mandate, hold me to it. O ga di ka oluebube.”
