INEC Set For Abuja Area Council Elections Saturday as Police Restricts Movement
Nigeria ‘s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it was set for area council elections in the country’ s capital,  Abuja,  having  put all necessary logistics in place for the elections.
Ahead of the polls, the electoral body held a meeting between the Commission and stakeholders in Abuja on Tuesday.
The INEC Chairman, Mahmoud Yakubu and the police authorities said that there would be a restriction of movement in the Federal Capital Territory from 7:00a.m. till 4:00pm on Saturday, April 9, as part of measures to ensure a credible electoral process.
Yakubu also revealed that the INEC plans to conduct re-run elections in Usuma ward of Bwari Area Council on Saturday April 16, in line with directives from the court to include the All progressive Grand Alliance in the re-run election.
This is seven as the Police warned political thugs to stay away from the polling units on Saturday.Â
The warning came as residents of the capital city prepare for the local counelections.
The Commissioner of Police in charge of the elections, Folunso Adebanjo, told journalists at a briefing in Abuja that the police had minimised adequate personnel to secure voters and election materials during the exercise.
The FCT police command says it is not taking the elections lightly and would not tolerate any thing that will disrupt the day.
