Gully Erosion Control Works Ongoing at Gombe State University (GSU) Site

It will be recalled that Gombe State Government, had recently awarded a contract worth over 2.9 billion Naira for the Gombe State University to Malam Inna erosion control works to Triacta Nigeria Limited through the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project, NEWMAP.

The signing of the contract is a testament of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s commitment to addressing the devastation caused by gullies in the state.

The company handling the project is currently constructing different sizes of storm water channels to see-off the immense run-off being experienced during the rainy season with a view to mitigating the effect of gullies in and around GSU, Kagarawal and Unguwa Uku.

The development of gullies is one of the severe environmental problems in Gombe, threatening its urban infrastructure, lives, property and physical growth.

Recall also that in his determination to address the manace of the gully erosion bedeviling parts of the State, Governor Inuwa Yahaya approved the release of Five hundred million Naira ( N 500,000, 000) as state’s counterpart contribution to facilitate the implementation of the World Bank funded project.
