SDG Ambassador, Academics Call For Revival of Reading Culture

FactualTimes Publisher Launches #Read2Lead Book Club

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Global Ambassador and Executive Director, Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative, Olasupo Abideen has called for revival of reading culture among youth in Nigeria.

Olasupo Abideen made this call during launching of #Read2Lead Book Club held at the Students Union Building Conference Hall, Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti.

Olasupo said the initiative is laudable and achievable, noting the #Read2lead aligns with goal four of the Sustainable Development Goals of promoting education.

He however charged members of the club to harness the opportunity in building their leadership capacity and prepare themselves for highly competitive business environment.

In her address, African Child Education Advocate, Miss Sophiath Bello tasked participants to make sacrifices for them to have a better and prosperous future.

“Nothing good comes cheap! You must work smart, seek knowledge by reading quality books and network with Likeminds in order to make impact. Leaders are problem solvers, therefore you must think of how to profer solutions to challenges facing your community.”

Mr Maruf Abdulrazak, Research Assistant, Centre Democracy and Development in his goodwill message said leadership is a position of reward for hardwork, dedication patience, discipline and persistence through useful mentorship.

The Convener of #Read2lead Book Club, Oyewale Oyelola said the initiative aimed at building new generation of leaders that would add value to the society and serve as change agents within their network.

Oyelola said: ”#Read2lead is my own little way of giving back to the society and provide mentorship platform for young people. I read a lot of leadership books after graduation and it has reshaped my life. 25 members will be reading 25 books in 25 weeks. We have good collection of leadership books famous authors across the world”.
