Governor Inuwa Yahaya Elated as Gombe United Secures NPFL Promotion Ticket

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya Gombe State is highly elated over the promotion of Gombe United back to the National Premier Football League (NPFL) since their relegation in 2018/2019 season.

The visibly happy Governor, while reacting to the victory of the Savannah scorpions in the super 8 play-off matches, hailed the team’s management, led by the Chairman, Dr. Lanre Daniel and the players for putting up superlative performance.

He said: “We are proud of the boys and their management team for making us proud and giving the entire sports loving people of Gombe State something to cheer and cherish”.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya noted that the players had demonstrated resilience, capability, discipline and tactical know-how during their matches and urged them to maintain the spirit in the Premier League and continue to do the state proud.

He assured the players and the management that his administration will continue to invest in sports development in the state.

Niger Tornadoes and Gombe United gained promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League the two clubs played out a 0-0 draw at the Nigeria National League Super 8 competition on Saturday in Enugu.

Tornadoes finished top of Group A with five points after one win and two draws from three games. The Ikon Allah Boys will compete in the final of the competition on Sunday.

Gombe United on the other hand finished in second position on the same point, but have an inferior goal difference.

El-kanemi Warriors missed out on promotion to the NPFL despite edging out DMD 4-0 in the other Group A fixture as the Maiduguri club finished in third position with four points.
