Calls for Federal University of Trade & Investments in Abia State
The All-Africa Students’ Union has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the unflinching support to the historic N500bn Enyimba Economic City Mega Project with 20percent equity that is aimed at reinvigorating economy of the entire zone and will create almost a million jobs when completed; describing the mega Project as one of Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu’s many developmental strides that will outlive his tenures in office.
The President of the pan-African Students Organization for all 54countries in Africa – Osisiogu Osikenyi has as well requested the Federal Government to also consider establishing a “Federal University of Trade & Investments in Abia” to build requisite local human capacity in Nigeria/Africa to match human resource requirements to drive the Project when completed.
The University will not only build manpower orchestrated for the Project but will also stimulate an academic Research hub that put the zone in focus for benchmarking global trends and growth prospects.
He also commended International Financial Institutions such as the World Bank, The International Finance Corporation, and the Afrexim Bank for their involvement in the historic Project.
He called on other Development Partners such as AfDB, WTO and the Global Private sector Investors to step up their involvement immediately.
He stressed that President Muhammadu Buhari’s passion for economic development of Nigeria is devoid of sentiment and party bias.
“We suspect he had this project in mind while appointing two successive Ministers of Trade & Investments from the state like Mr Okechukwu Enelama and the incumbent Dr. Uche Sampson Ogah.
“The Union therefore called on the Minister of Trade and Investments – Dr. Uche Sampson Ogah and the Minister of State for Education – Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba to take the “Federal University of Trade & Investments in Abia” as an added priority to deepen the success of the Enyimba Economic Project” the union stated.
The President, reiterating that the Union will remain AMBASSADORS OF THE EEC PROJECT announced the convening of “AASU Presidential Symposium on Africa’s Economic Renaissance” to be held in February 2022, with Student Leaders from all over the continent setting a Blueprint for partnership in making the EEC and other similar ambitious Projects across Africa.
