Nigeria Places Ex-Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello, Under Watchlist, Alerts DSS, NIA, Police, Others
Hours after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declared wanted the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello wanted, indications emerged that the embattled Governor has been placed under watchlist by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
He was placed under watchlist in an efforts to ensure that he does not flee the West African country after his tenure as state Governor elapsed without answering questions about corruption allegations levelled against him.
According to memo from the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) dated April 18, 2024, all security agencies in the country, including the Department of State Services (DSS), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), were ordered to arrest Alhaji Bello on sight.
The memo signed by D.S. Umar, an Assistant Comptroller of Immigration (Suspect Index) on behalf of the Comptroiler-General of immigration Service, clearly informed all relevant heads of Nigeria’s security agencies that the the former Governor has been placed on watchlist.
It then itemised Conspiracy, Breach of Trust and Money Laundering as offences he is being prosecuted before the Federal High Court Abuja.
He was said to have escaped arrest through the help of the Kogi Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo.
It is believed that former Governor Bello is at press time hiding inside the Kogi Government House, Lokoja, the state capital.
An Investigative Journalist, Jackson Ude in a post on his X handle alleged that plans are being made to help the former Chief Executive of the state escape from the country to an undisclosed location.
But the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, had called on the immediate-past Governor of Kogi State to follow the path of decency and submit himself for Probe.
