Obi Calls on Tinubu to Address Nation as #EndBadGovernance Protests Intensify
As the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests enter their second day, Labour Party Presidential Candidate Peter Obi has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the nation and respond to the legitimate demands of the protesters.
Speaking from his home in Onitsha, Anambra State, Obi emphasized the need for the President to directly engage with the people, rather than relying on aides or appointees. “My appeal is for the President to come out and address the nation, he is the one the people elected, holding their mandate, and he should not be using aides or appointees to reach the people at such critical times.”
Obi acknowledged the legitimacy of the protesters’ demands, but stressed the importance of pursuing them within the law. He also extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, were injured, or suffered property damage during the protests.
The former Anambra State Governor dismissed claims that he was involved in the protests, referencing a video showing him in Abuja on the first day of the protests. “I am here in Onitsha; I can’t be here and be in Abuja,” he said.
Obi’s call for presidential action comes as the protests continue to spread across the country, with demonstrators demanding an end to bad governance, corruption, and economic hardship. The situation remains tense, with many calling for a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
