Senator Rochas Okorocha, the former Governor of Imo State, is alive and well, contrary to rumors circulating on social media.

His aide, Ebere Nzeworji, confirmed this in a statement, dismissing the false reports that Okorocha had passed away in a London hospital.

Nzeworji clarified that Okorocha was seen at his Unity House office in Garki, Abuja, around the same time the rumor began to spread. In fact, Okorocha had recently returned from Owerri, Imo State, where he attended the funeral ceremony of late elder statesman Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu on November 1.

He also hosted Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and other representatives at his Spibat residence in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

It’s unclear what motivated the spread of this false information, but Nzeworji emphasized Okorocha’s patriotic service and well-wishing nature.

In his words, Nzeworji said, “One can now begin to wonder about the motives of those behind this fake news.

“Senator Okorocha is a patriotic Nigerian who has served at both state and national levels with distinction, building friendships with well-meaning individuals across the country and the globe.

“The former governor has never wished anyone dead and is always cheerful and caring about the wellbeing of others.

“We, therefore, call on all well-meaning Nigerians and the global community to disregard this fake news and be assured that His Excellency, Senator Rochas Okorocha, is hale and hearty”, the Senator’s aide emphasised.

This isn’t the first time a public figure has been victimized by a death hoax, as former president Olusegun Obasanjo and former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd) has at different times been reported death while alive and well.
