Traditional Ruler Mourns Victims of Recent Stampede Incidents
Enugu, Nigeria – His Royal Majesty, Igwe Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu, Chairman of Enugu State Traditional Rulers’ Council, has expressed deep sadness over the recent stampede incidents in Okija, Anambra State, Maitama, Abuja, and Ibadan, Oyo State.
The traditional ruler, who is also the Ogadagidi 1 of Edem-Ani Ogwugwu Ancient Kingdom in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, commiserated with the families of the victims in a press release issued in Enugu on Tuesday.
“I am saddened and deeply touched over Nigerians who lost their lives as well as those injured in the recent stampedes,” Igwe Asadu said. “I pray for the peaceful repose of souls who were lost in those stampedes as I wish the injured people quick recovery.”
The stampede incidents, which occurred during charity events and a funfair, resulted in the loss of many lives and left several others injured. The incidents have left Nigerians in shock and sorrow, with many calling for measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Igwe Asadu advised relevant authorities to provide necessary support and attention to the injured to ensure their quick recovery. He also urged Nigerians to show compassion and solidarity to the families of the victims.
“Those tragic incidents have left Nigerians in shock and sorrow, our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends who have lost their loved ones,” he said. “Relevant authorities should provide necessary supports and attentions to the injured people to ensure their quick recovery.”
The traditional ruler also advised organizers of public events to put necessary measures in place to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
“At this painful period, I urge everybody to show compassion and solidarity to families of victims,” he said. “I also advise Nigerians organizing public events to always put necessary measures in place to prevent such recurrence in future.”
