Dr. Bolaji Akinyemi, a renowned Nigerian apostle and nation-builder, was invited to speak at the Africa Leadership Summit in Jerusalem, Israel in July/August 2023. The summit, focused on building economic ties between Nigeria and Israel. Akinyemi presented a paper titled; “Building the Highway of Business between Nigeria and Israel.”
Akinyemi has been vocal about the need for Nigeria to focus on economic development rather than religious pilgrimages. He believes that government funds spent on pilgrimages could be better utilized on fellowship exchange Programme at building human capacity in the area of Agriculture, education, health and technology for economic empowerment of our teeming populace. Prior to his trip to Israel, he criticized the Nigerian government for sponsoring pilgrimages, arguing that it is not a priority for the country’s development.
In what looks like a foretelling, in 2023, Akinyemi argued that instead of sponsoring pilgrimages, the government should focus on sending Nigerian youths to Israel to learn from their agricultural models, innovations, and technologies. He emphasized the need to prioritise sending the youth to Israel for short training in order to learn how to replicate Israel’s success in precision agriculture in the use of technology to optimise land and water resources to enhance farm productivity.
Akinyemi highlighted the vast potential for Nigeria to improve its agricultural sector by adopting Israeli technologies and expertise. He noted that Nigeria’s agricultural earnings could increase from $1.2 billion to $6 trillion if the country adopts technology and precision agriculture like Israel.
Akinyemi is leading a select team of Christian leaders of thoughts to Jerusalem in 2025 wondering whether President Tinubu will consider the prescience of the advocacy of 2023 and prioritize economic development over religious pilgrimages.
Jerusalem 2025 would present an opportunity for the delegation to share their vision of building ties between Nigeria and Israel in the area of Betrayal Trauma, emergency response and humanitarian crisis management.
