The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied allegations of candidate imposition in the ongoing state congress, describing the claims as inaccurate, misleading, and driven by ulterior political motives.
In a statement released on Sunday by the State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, the party faulted accusations attributed to a state chairmanship aspirant, Ebiakpo Ezebri, who alleged that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori influenced the emergence of a preferred candidate in the congress process.
According to the party, no individual has been imposed as chairman of the Delta State APC, stressing that the allegations were intended to mislead party members, create unnecessary division, and discredit what it described as a transparent and constitutionally guided exercise.
The statement declared that the congress was being conducted in accordance with the partyโs constitution and established democratic procedures, insisting that no action had been taken outside the framework of the rules governing the party.
The APC leadership noted that Governor Oborevwori, as leader of the party in the state, has maintained respect for internal democracy, party supremacy, and the rule of law, adding that attempts to associate him with any form of manipulation of the congress process were unfounded and unacceptable.
Clarifying the zoning of the state chairmanship position to Delta South Senatorial District, the party explained that the decision was reached after extensive consultations among leaders, elders, and stakeholders from the three senatorial districts, and not the directive of any single individual.
It stated that the zoning arrangement was designed to promote fairness, inclusiveness, balance, and unity within the party, adding that the responsibility for recommending a candidate rests with stakeholders from Delta South, whose deliberations were described as independent and comprehensive.
The party also dismissed suggestions of discrimination between old and new members, emphasizing that membership duration does not restrict any member from contesting for leadership positions, as long as constitutional requirements are met.
While acknowledging the right of every qualified member to seek office, the party warned against attempts to distort facts or undermine a legitimate process because of personal interests.
The statement further assured party faithful that the congress is being conducted strictly in line with national guidelines and the party constitution, with no aspirant receiving unfair advantage.
The Delta APC cautioned members against spreading misinformation or engaging in actions capable of weakening the partyโs structure, stressing that personal grievances must not be allowed to disrupt efforts to strengthen unity within the party.
It called on all aspirants and members to show discipline, maturity, and respect for party supremacy, noting that the overall interest of the party must take precedence over individual ambition.
The party expressed confidence that the outcome of the congress would reflect the collective will of stakeholders and reinforce its image as a political platform built on fairness, justice, and democratic principles.
The statement concluded by reaffirming the partyโs commitment to protecting the rights of members while preserving the integrity and credibility of the APC in Delta State, adding that the process aligns with its renewed commitment to the M.O.R.E. agenda.
