President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle affecting the membership of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), resulting in the exit of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.
The development was disclosed in an official memo issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and signed by George Akume. According to the directive, Mr. Edun has been instructed to hand over his responsibilities to Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, who has now been elevated to serve as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele, prior to his elevation, held the position of Minister of State within the same ministry.
In a related move, Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as ministerial nominee and minister designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, following the directive for Arc. Dangiwa to relinquish his position. The outgoing minister is to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry pending the completion of formal processes.
The memo stipulated that all handing-over procedures must be concluded on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Providing insight into the rationale behind the reshuffle, Senator Akume stated that the changes were designed to โstrengthen cohesion, enhance synergy in governance, and ensure more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Agenda.โ
He further noted that the Presidentโs action was in full exercise of constitutional powers as enshrined in Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
President Tinubu, according to the statement, expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavours. He also reassured members of the cabinet that efforts to reinvigorate governance structures would remain an ongoing process.
