The National Democratic Congress, NDC, has announced guidelines and modalities for its forthcoming party primaries across the country.
In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC said the report of its Screening Committee chaired by former Ebonyi State Governor, Sam Egwu, has been formally received and adopted following extensive consultations among party leaders and stakeholders.
The party disclosed that all aspirants who purchased Expression of Interest Forms would be allowed to participate in the primaries within their constituencies.
According to the statement, the meeting was attended by the party’s National Chairman, presidential aspirant Peter Obi, members of the National Working Committee, and other senior officials.
The NDC said it has deployed primary election teams to all states of the federation to oversee the exercise in collaboration with local stakeholders and party leaders.
The party explained that State Assembly primaries would be conducted through direct primaries at constituency level, while primaries and affirmations for House of Representatives, Senate, governorship, and presidential positions would hold at Local Government Headquarters.
It added that final results would be announced at the party’s National Secretariat by the Selection Committee and the National Executive Committee.
The NDC also encouraged consensus arrangements to strengthen party unity and democratic consolidation, while reiterating its commitment to women and youth participation in the electoral process.
The party warned against violence, intimidation, and disorderly conduct during the primaries, stressing that strict disciplinary measures would be taken against offenders.
Meanwhile, the NDC acknowledged that time constraints prevented the deployment of its proposed electronic voting and collation system for the current exercise, but assured members that future party primaries would be fully digitised.
The party further called on aspirants, stakeholders, security agencies, and the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure peaceful, transparent, and credible primaries nationwide.
And that was a report on the National Democratic Congress preparations for its nationwide party primaries.
