The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has cautioned the public against relying on unofficial results from its recently concluded nationwide primary elections, insisting that only the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) has the authority to announce the authentic outcome of the exercise.
In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Osa Director Esq., the NDC said numerous results currently circulating on social media platforms do not represent the official position of the party and should therefore be disregarded.
The party explained that the primaries, conducted across the country on May 28 and 29, 2026, were successfully concluded, but emphasized that the collation and official release of results remain the exclusive responsibility of its highest decision-making organ.
According to the statement, all results from the exercise have been submitted to the National Executive Council, which is expected to deliberate on them before making any formal announcement.
“The general public is hereby urged to disregard the various results circulating on social media as the outcome of the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress on the 28th and 29th of May, 2026,” the statement said.
It added that “the results of the primaries are with the National Executive Council (NEC) of our great party. They are solely responsible for announcements of results.”
The clarification comes amid growing speculation and heightened interest among party members, supporters and political observers over the outcome of the primaries, particularly following the emergence of several purported result sheets and candidate lists on social media.
Meanwhile, the party has announced an emergency gathering of its top leadership ahead of the formal release of the primary election outcomes.
The statement disclosed that the meeting was convened on the directive of the National Leader of the party, Distinguished Senator Seriake Dickson, who has ordered all NEC members to converge on Abuja for a series of consultations.
Under the arrangement, NEC members are expected to arrive in the Federal Capital Territory for a pre-NEC meeting on Tuesday, June 2, while the substantive NEC meeting will hold on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
The leadership meeting is expected to review reports from across the country and finalize decisions relating to candidates who will fly the party’s flag in forthcoming elections.
The NDC further assured stakeholders and members of the public that the official results would be made available at the appropriate time, stressing that transparency and due process would guide the process.
“The general public and stakeholders will be availed of the results of our primaries when we send the list of candidates to fly our party’s flag to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),” the statement noted.
Political observers say the forthcoming NEC meeting could prove decisive in shaping the party’s electoral strategy as preparations intensify for the next round of elections.
