ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE — The Ogun State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on cult-related activities with the arrest of 30 suspected cultists during a foiled initiation procession in Isara-Remo, Ogun State.
The operation, carried out by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in collaboration with detectives from the Isara Area Command and Isara Division, led to the recovery of four vehicles and several items believed to have been used during the illegal gathering.
According to a statement issued by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the suspects were apprehended on June 16, 2026, following credible intelligence reports indicating that a group of young men had assembled at an uncompleted building in Isara-Remo for activities linked to cult initiation.

Acting swiftly on the information, the Commander of the VCRU mobilised a joint team comprising operatives from the VCRU, Isara Area Command, and Isara Division. The team stormed the location in a coordinated operation, successfully dispersing the gathering and arresting 30 male suspects.

“The suspects were immediately taken into custody and subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Abeokuta, for further investigation,” the statement said.
The Command added that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend other suspects who escaped during the raid.
Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, described the successful raid as evidence of the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and its determination to rid the state of cultism and violent crimes.
He praised the professionalism, discipline, and swift response of the operatives, stressing that cult-related activities and unlawful assemblies would not be tolerated anywhere within Ogun State.
The police chief further urged young people involved in cult groups to renounce cultism and embrace lawful and productive pursuits, warning that the Command would continue to pursue and prosecute anyone found engaging in criminal activities.
