ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed as fake and misleading several lists of purported party candidates currently circulating on social media, insisting that only the names officially submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) represent the party’s authentic candidates for forthcoming elections.
In a statement issued by the National Secretary of the party, Barrister Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu, the NDC urged its members and supporters, particularly in Imo, Abia, Anambra and other affected states, to disregard the circulating lists, describing them as the handiwork of individuals seeking to sow confusion and discord within the party.
The party clarified that it had duly completed the nomination process and transmitted the authentic list of its candidates to INEC through channels prescribed by the Electoral Act.
According to the statement, the documents making the rounds on various social media platforms did not originate from the party’s national headquarters and should not be regarded as official in any form.
“The general public, especially members of the NDC in Imo, Abia, Anambra and other affected states, are hereby urged to disregard the lists of candidates widely circulating on social media as the authentic lists of our party’s candidates. The said lists are fake and did not emanate from the party headquarters,” the statement said.
The NDC further disclosed that it had commenced investigations to uncover the sources of the alleged fabrications and unauthorized disclosures, describing the development as a calculated attempt to distract the party and undermine its internal cohesion.
Party officials expressed confidence that the misinformation campaign would not derail its political objectives, stressing that the organisation remains focused on strengthening its structures and preparing for future electoral contests.
The statement also reassured members that the party remains committed to its vision of providing an alternative platform for national development and democratic renewal.
“The party is investigating the sources of such fabrications and leakages as they are desperate attempts to cause ill will and distractions within the party,” Enekweizu stated.
He added that the NDC remains steadfast in its mission to build a strong political movement capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges and advancing the aspirations of citizens across the country.
The latest clarification comes amid heightened political activities and preparations for upcoming elections, with parties across the country finalising their candidate lists and strengthening their grassroots mobilisation efforts.
Political observers say the NDC’s swift response is aimed at preventing misinformation from creating uncertainty among party faithful and the electorate while reinforcing confidence in the party’s internal processes.
