ASAGA OHAFIA, ABIA STATE – The family of late Mrs. Nneoma Rosaline Ekenma Kalu has announced plans for her final burial rites, with the revered matriarch set to be laid to rest on Friday, August 28, 2026, in her hometown of Asaga Ohafia, Abia State.
The announcement was made by her son, Mr. Charles O. Kalu, Social and Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) and General Manager of Peoples 105.5 FM, Abuja, on behalf of the family.
According to the statement, a Christian Service of Songs in honour of the deceased will hold on Thursday, August 27, 2026, ahead of the funeral and interment ceremonies scheduled for the following day.
Mrs. Kalu, fondly called “Mma Rosa,” passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, at the age of 85. She was widely admired for her devotion to God, commitment to family values and unwavering service to her community.
The family described the late matriarch as a woman of exceptional courage, deep faith and selfless sacrifice whose life left an indelible mark on all who came in contact with her.
A devout Christian and respected community leader, she was particularly known for her outstanding contributions to the Women’s Guild of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria in Ohafia, where she received several honours and commendations for her dedicated service.
Beyond her church engagements, Mrs. Kalu was recognised as a prominent women’s leader who devoted her time to mentoring younger generations and promoting community development through acts of kindness, compassion and generosity.
Her remains will be interred at her residence, Ndia Kalu Compound, 102 Ezera Road, Asaga Ohafia, following funeral rites organised by the family.
A reception for sympathisers, friends and well-wishers will be held immediately after the interment at the Coronata Primary School Field, Amuke Road, Asaga Ohafia.
Since news of her passing became public, tributes have continued to pour in from family members, friends and community leaders, many of whom have described her as a symbol of resilience, perseverance and unconditional love.
The family said her legacy of faith, service and integrity would continue to inspire her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all those whose lives she touched.
As preparations gather momentum for her final journey, the people of Ohafia are expected to celebrate a life defined by devotion to God, service to humanity and an enduring commitment to the upliftment of others.
The family also expressed appreciation to friends, associates and well-wishers for their prayers, support and words of comfort during this difficult period, praying for the peaceful repose of the soul of their beloved matriarch, Mrs. Rosaline Ekenma Kalu.
