Chelsea, who had collected six points from their opening two matches, suffered their first defeat of the campaign and remain on six points.
The latest result also extended Arsenal’s remarkable unbeaten run against Chelsea to 12 consecutive competitive meetings.
For Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, the victory represents another significant boost in the club’s bid to challenge for Premier League honours. More importantly, the comeback demonstrated the Gunners’ ability to respond under pressure after conceding an early goal.
Chelsea, meanwhile, will have to regroup quickly after surrendering a promising start against one of their major London rivals.
The result underlined the fine margins involved in encounters between the two clubs, but Arsenal’s greater resilience ultimately proved decisive at the Emirates.
