The Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has ordered the restriction of vehicular movement in the 36 states of Nigeria for the final lap of the 2015 general election.

The police had also restricted vehicular movement during the past presidential and National Assembly election on March 28.

The police spokesperson, Emmanuel Ojukwu, said the restriction – between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday only – is to further ensure safety and security in the forthcoming gubernatorial and state Houses of Assembly elections on Saturday.

“This restriction excludes vehicles on essential duty such as Fire Service, Ambulances and vehicles used by Independent National Electoral Commission and law enforcement/security agencies,” Mr. Ojukwu said.

Mr. Ojukwu noted that there would be no vehicular restriction in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital on Saturday as there will be no elections in the city.
