Ebonyi Council PDP Chairman Shot Dead
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Emeka Nworie, has been killed by gunmen suspected to be political thugs in the early hours of Saturday.
The late PDP chairman was attacked in his house in Ezzagu in Ishielu LGA and shot severally by assailants on different parts of his body until he died, the police said.
Confirming the incident, the Police spokesperson, Chris Anyanwu, said he was shot at around 3 a.m. in the morning.
He said the assailants had asked for money from the victim’s wife, which was generously given to them, yet they shot him severally.
Ebonyi Stat has witnessed politically-motivated killings since last November.
Two persons were killed earlier in the week in Ikwo local government when supporters of PDP and Labout Party clashed.
In the Ikwo incident, one Mike Ojon, was reported to have been killed by people suspected to be members of the opposition party.
Ojon was killed on Friday night at his Ikwo residence.
Worried by the development, the PDP deputy governorship candidate, Barrister Kelechi Igwe said they were unhappy that the election wasn’t peaceful considering the peaceful conduct of the presidential election.
He expressed dismay that even before accreditation, the opposition Labour Party in the state had started “shooting and killing just to scare PDP members away”.
Igwe said: “In Ishielu local government area, the PDP chairman was shot dead.
“In Ikwo LGA, my strong supporter was shot dead on Friday by hoodlums working for Labour Party”, he alleged.
