An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday, sentenced a 31 year-old saleswoman, Sandra Aro, to two years imprisonment for stealing her employers N500,000.
The court presided over by Magistrate Mrs M.O. Olajuwon, sentenced the convict to a jail term of two years after finding her guilty of a count charge of stealing leveled against her by the police.
The accused on her arraignment in August 13, 2015, had pleaded not guilty to the charge, and was admitted to a bail of N200,000 with one surety by the court.
The convict who was aged 30, at her arraignment was said to have stolen the money on August 12, 2015 at 31, Martins Street, Lagos Island.
During the trial of the case, while being cross-examined, the convict admitted that she indeed took the sum of N500,000 from the drawer of her employer, Faith Eboh. But said she was hypnotised when she boarded a vehicle on her way to the shop, she was told to swear an oath and was told to bring the amount.
Sentencing the convict, Magistrate Olajuwon held that the prosecution had been able to prove the charges of stealing against the convict as charged by the police, beyond reasonable doubt.
She, however, sentenced the convict to two years imprisonment without an option of fine and it is to run concurrently.
The offences according to the Prosecutor, Inspector Julius Babatope, had informed the court that the offence contravened Section 285 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2011.
