Gov Bunu Supports Corps Member to Donate Face Mask to NYSC

Governor Mai Mala Bunu of Yobe State has supported a corps member, Mohammed Bukar Ahijo to donate face masks to the Ondo State National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The corps member serving in Ondo State is from Yobe State.

Ahijo, who has many times participated in numerous initiatives organised by the Yobe State government in combating COVID-19 pandemic stated he is motivated that State government is determined to engage youths in affairs of the state matters to state and National development.

According to him, the pandemic has “challenged our institutions with temporal closure and our normal way of life for almost a year. The federal government through the ministry of health and National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) as well as state governments have taken different measures in combating the virus at time.

“An evident example of how active state governments play vital role against the pandemic is Yobe state government.

“Under the watch of his excellency the governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Bunu, the state was able to tackle the situation effectively and recorded very low cases of Coronavirus.

“This was due to the quick response and active role the Governor played during first wave of the pandemic.

He actively engaged all stakeholders, governments and non-governmental organisations, youth organisations and movements and supported them to be actively engaged in the anti-COVID-19 campaign process”, he said.

As citizens continue in their daily activities amid second wave of the Coronavirus spread, with possibilities of exposure to the virus, the corps member donated the face masks to the NYSC management in Ondo State.

Ahijo added that “the gesture is one of Hon. Mala Bunu’s initiatives in combating the pandemic, which has now been extended beyond Yobe State.

“We all know that the virus can easily be transmitted in public gatherings like the NYSC Camps and wearing face masks and maintaining social distances, as well as other protocols, can help us break the chain of transmission of the virus.

The corps member also noted that the “Yobe State government carried out similar project when students were writing WAEC examinations, which has been effective, and as a result of that the governor extends this initiatives to reach other places of public gatherings”.

Appreciating the Ondo State NYSC management, Ahijo said, “I want to seize this opportunity to thank and appreciate the effort of the Ondo state Coordinator, Mrs Grace Akpabo and also the camp director for ensuring all necessary measures against COVID-19 are in place and well respected”, pledging that more of such items, including hand sanitisers will be donated.

The State coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs Grace Akpabo who received the items expressed gratitude to the donor and commended the governor’s effort in combating COVID 19 at state and National levels.

She also commended the Yobe State Governor’s efforts in engaging youths in his administration and in face of national matters like the COVID-19 pandemic.

She concluded by saying “I am optimistic that youths recruited under Gov. Mai Mala Bunu’s administration are tools for national development.”
