The newly appointed Spokesperson of Nigerian Air Force Air (NAF), Air Commodore Wapkerem Maigida, and the outgoing Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, have urged the media to partner with the NAF and other Services to tackle security challenges facing the nation.
They gave the charge during handing and taking over at NAF headquarters in Abuja.
They employed the media to remain steadfast as they carry out the watchdog functions of informing and enlightening the public about happenings in the Defence and security sector.
They also urged members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm to use their reportage to shape public perceptions and views about the Nigerian Air Force towards enduring National Defence and security in the country.
Speaking earlier, the outgoing spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, who is now the Commander 551 NAF Station, Jos, urged the media to extend maximum cooperation to the new spokesman.
According to Gabkwet, the new spokesman is a qualified senior officer and certified pubkic relations specialist who would send the right message about NAF operations to the world.
Gabkwet also used the occasion to commend the media for their supports in the coverage of delicate and sensitive sector of military service.
In his remarks, the new DOPRI, Air Commodore Maigida thanked the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Oladayo Amao for his appointment, assuring him that as an image maker of the Air Force, he will continue to project CAS vision, which: “is to enhance and sustain critical airport capabilities required for joint force employment in pursuit of national Security imperatives.”
“Thus, I believe this will boost the combat efficiency and effectiveness of the Nigerian Air Force towards enhancing airpower capability to confront enemies of our dear country,” he said.
While appreciating the immerse contributions of his immediate predecessor, Air Commodore Gabkwet on steering the affair of the directorate, Air Cdre Wapkerem Maigida on behalf of the officers, men and civilian staff of Directorate assure that the Directorate will keep forging ahead under his watch to continue to trunk out and leveraging on all the mainstream and online social media platforms to bring out air force stories clearly.
“It is gratifying to mention that I’m fully aware of responsibilities of my office as Director, Public Relations and information in which, in summary, is to project the operational engagement and other activities of Nigerian Air Force, with the aim of galvanizing the support and goodwill for the Nigerian Air Force, is striving to project air power to conquer the mirage of security challenges currently developing in our country” he noted.
