Coup Instigators’ Requests To Overthrow Tinubu’s Government Rejected — DHQ
The Armed Forces of Nigeria has confirmed that requests by coup instigators to topple the democratically elected Government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been rejected.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ), in a statement titled, “Military Better Under Democracy” and signed by Brigadier-General Tukur Guasau, Director of Defence Information, revealed that the Military is better under democracy, revealing how the military rejected the requests by some elements in the country to topple Tinubu’s government.
The statement stated that the reports calling on the Military to interfere in the Nation’s Democracy were highly unpatriotic, wicked and an attempt to distract the Armed Forces of Nigeria from performing its constitutional responsibilities.
The Defence Headquarters declared that the Military “is happy and better under democracy and will not get involved in any act to sabotage the hard-earned democracy in our country.”
The statement reaffirmed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria, “under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, General CG Musa, is determined to ensure complete subordination of the Armed Forces to constitutional authority under His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not be distracted from its roles well-defined in the 1999 constitution (as amended).”
The statement reads, “The Defence Headquarters frown at a report circulated online about welfare issues in the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
“The report’s call on the Military to interfere in our democracy is highly unpatriotic, wicked, and an attempt to distract the Armed Forces of Nigeria from performing it’s
constitutional responsibilities.”
The Defence Headquarters noted that while the leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria gives priority to the welfare of its personnel
however, “we detest any attempt by any individual or group to instigate the law-abiding Armed Forces of Nigeria to embark on any unconstitutional change of government in our country.
“We wish to state unequivocally that the Military is happy and better under democracy and will not get involved in any act to sabotage the hard-earned democracy in our country.”
The statement maintained that under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, General CG Musa, the Armed Forces of Nigeria “is determined to ensure complete subordination of the Armed Forces to constitutional authority under His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not be distracted from its roles well-defined in the 1999 constitution (as amended).”
