Imo ALGON Chairman Bags Local Government Excellent Award

The Imo State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), who is also the incumbent Chairman of Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State, Hon. Willie T. C Okolieogwo, fondly called in local palance as “Ome Ka Odi Nma N’Oru”, was recently conferred with an excellent merit award by the Nigeria Local Governments Excellence Award (LOGEXA 2023).
The fellow of the Chartered Institute of Administration was honoured with the Local Government Excellent Merit Award, for his Human Development/Rural Integration.
A statement by his Special Adviser (SA) on New Media/Publicity, Brendan Nwaozor, noted that the award was a proof of the “manifestation of his signature projects’ traits, demonstrated since his sojourn in the Local Government Area Administration, specifically in Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State, and by extension, in his managerial acumen and administrative ingenuity as Imo State Chairman of ALGON, since 2020 till date.”
The Nigeria Local Government Excellent Award is a platform for recognizing local government administrators in the country.
The award recipient was among 36 out of the 774 Local Government Area Chairmen who were deserving of the honour in line with the organisers’ criteria, covering physical checks and analysis of executed signature projects, human capital development, rural integration policies, among others in the country’s local councils.
According to the award letter, sent to each of the the Imo State ALGON Chairman, the organisers of the award noted that the “activities, especially, your efforts in the Areas of human development/rural integration in your local government, within the period you are in office, is a model for successful Local Government administrations in the Country”.
The Letter added:
“Inefficiency, incompetency and corruption have been identified as some of the Challenges, affecting the Growth of Local Governments in Nigeria.
“However, you have efficiently and judiciously expended the resources at your disposal, even, in the face of dwindling global economy. You have demonstrated, through transparency, accountability and commitment to duty, that, you are indeed a selfless and worthy leader”.
In his brief acceptance speech, after the conferment of the 2023 Award, Hon. Ambassador Willie T.C Okolieogwo, dedicated the Award to the the Almighty God and the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma.
He equally dedicated the award to his family, whose prayers and support, he said, endowed him with a selfless pace, and to his supportive stakeholders and the entire people of Oru-West Local Government, who availed him “the conducive atmosphere and cooperations, to excel.”
