Breaking News: Leadership Change at the Police Service Commission

Spread the love

In a significant move, President Bola Tinubu has announced the removal of Mr. Solomon Arase from his position as the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC).

The decision was made public by the presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, who stated that DIG Hashimu Argungu (Retd) has been appointed as the new Chairman.

The statement did not specify the reasons behind Mr. Arase’s dismissal.

However, this change comes in the wake of an investigative report that brought to light Mr. Arase’s alleged involvement in the illegal sale of lands through a contracting firm, which was purportedly done under the pretense of developing police residential estates.

The report also accused Mr. Arase of enabling the contracting firm to secure nearly N1 billion from the Police Mortgage Bank without adequate collateral.

Following the publication, Mr. Arase and the contracting firm filed lawsuits against the newspaper and the reporter responsible for the story, leading to police harassment of the journalists.

The presidency has confirmed that the appointments of the new Chairman, Secretary, and a member of the PSC are pending confirmation by the Senate. Further appointments to the commission will be announced in due course.

The new leadership is expected to address the pressing issues of police reform and public trust in law enforcement agencies.
