Unity in Celebration: Nigeria Marks Democracy Day in Lagos with Support Surge for Olubadan Coronation
As Nigeria basks in the glow of Democracy Day, a wave of support sweeps across the nation for the coronation of Olakulehin as Olubadan of Ibadanland. The momentum builds with notable figures like Yakassai, Eda Onile-Ola, Bolanle Awe, and various civil societies rallying behind the cause.
The fervor is part of a larger tapestry of celebration, marking 30 years since MKO Abiola’s historic self-declaration, with events culminating at MKO Abiola House in Lagos. Spearheaded by Comrade Awa Bamiji, a veteran activist, this year’s National Discourse by Pro-Democracy Groups shines a spotlight on national unity and honors heroes of democracy.
Looking ahead, September 23rd promises another landmark event to honor Chief Lere Paimo at the University of Ibadan. With President Tinubu and First Lady as special guests, and Governor Sanwo-Olu delivering a lecture in Yoruba, it’s a testament to Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and unwavering spirit of democracy.

“While Chief Lere Paimo, MFR, alias Eda Onile – Ola and another Yoruba Actor, Mr Ariyo Adetola Mukhail, a.k.a Lanloyin, were warmly received by the gathering of notable leaders of Civil Societies on arrival, most of whom left for their individual ends shortly before the snapping of the Group picture, another Primaries figure, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, Kano State, founding father of Arewa Consultative Forum, and Prof (Mrs) Bolanle Awe were represented by Mallam Abraham Abubakar from Sokoto State and Madam Suebat Bakare respectively.
