Empowering Expectant Mothers: Enugu First Lady’s ‘Mama Care Initiative’ Takes Center Stage
In a groundbreaking move to address maternal and infant mortality, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, the First Lady of Enugu State and wife of the state Governor, Dr Peter Mbah, has unveiled her Mama Care Initiative.
The initiative, which is a comprehensive health insurance scheme aims to provide vital services to expectant mothers across the state.
Mrs. Mbah’s driving vision is that no woman should lose her life during childbirth, and no infant should face preventable complications.
The Mama Care Initiative stands as a beacon of hope, offering holistic support to pregnant women.
Approximately 1,701 pregnant women have already enrolled in the one-year health insurance programme.
The initiative collaborates with the Custos Care Foundation to ensure seamless implementation.
The expectant mothers receive antenatal care, safe delivery services, and postnatal support.
The beneficiaries also receive essential food supplies, including 1,701 bags of rice, and financial assistance.
An expectant mother, Chinwe Okoro, in her testimonial, said, “I was worried about how I would afford quality healthcare during my pregnancy. Thanks to Mama Care, I now have peace of mind. The antenatal care and safe delivery services have been exceptional. I feel supported and cared for.”
The Mama Care Initiative transcends insurance as it embodies compassion, empowerment, and a commitment to healthier futures, a giant leap toward ensuring safe and supervised childbirth for all mothers.
