Defamation Case Against Journalist Agba Jalingo Adjourned as Ayade’s Sister-in-Law Seeks to Prove ‘Ill Will’
The Federal High Court in Abuja has postponed the cross-examination in a criminal defamation case brought by Mrs. Alami Ayade, sister-in-law of former Cross River Governor Senator Ben Ayade, against Citizen Agba Jalingo, publisher of Crossriverwatch.
The case stems from a Facebook post by Jalingo alleging examination malpractice at the Abuja campus of the Nigerian Law School, which Mrs. Ayade claims caused her “ill will” and “insult.”
The court has adjourned the matter to October 22nd and 23rd, 2024, to allow the claimant’s lawyer more time to cross-examine the defendant’s witness, Comrade Adebayo Lion Ogorry.
Jalingo was previously charged and acquitted in a separate case at the same court.
The adjournment prolongs the legal battle between Mrs. Ayade and Jalingo, with the former seeking to prove damages to her reputation.
