Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Thursday, September 19, 2024, visited Bode Saadu town to sympathize with residents affected by the devastating flooding of the Arinun Bridge.
The recent downpours overwhelmed the bridge, initially submerging many houses in the area.

Accompanied by Commissioner for Special Duties Hon. John Bello and Special Adviser (Special Duties) Abdulrazaq Jiddah, the Governor embarked on an on-the-spot assessment of the affected areas.

“We are here to commiserate with the people of Bode Saadu and make sure that everybody is okay and look at the causes of the flood,” AbdulRazaq told reporters during the visit.

After conducting a thorough inspection, AbdulRazaq attributed the flooding to challenges with the temporary bypass constructed during the dualization of the Ilorin-Mokwa Road by the Federal Ministry of Works.

“The Director of Highway, Federal Ministry of Works, and other experts are on their way here to find an immediate solution to the problem,” he assured.

To alleviate the suffering of the affected residents, AbdulRazaq directed the deployment of the State Emergency Management Agency for relief measures.

In a stern warning, AbdulRazaq appealed to residents of the state to always steer clear of setbacks, emphasizing its crucial role in preventing similar incidents.

“One of the major challenges we have nationwide is people not observing setbacks. It is a major problem. Half of the buildings wouldn’t have been affected if they had observed the right setbacks,” he noted.

“We will intensify our efforts to ensure that people observe setbacks for the safety of all,” AbdulRazaq vowed.

Commissioner John Bello, who hails from the axis of the state, commended AbdulRazaq for the visit, describing it as a testament to his commitment to the welfare of the people.

As relief efforts continue, residents are advised to remain vigilant and adhere to safety guidelines to prevent further disasters.
