From Blight to Beauty: Delta State’s Environmental Makeover Gains Momentum
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is making significant strides in promoting environmental sustainability in the state, earning praise from Chief Emmanuel Okpomo, Executive Assistant to the Governor on Beautification.
Okpomo commended Oborevwori’s efforts during the demolition of illegal structures at the Cenotaph in Asaba, highlighting the governor’s M.O.R.E Agenda as a driving force behind the transformation.
The Cenotaph, once plagued by illicit activities, including the sale of alcohol and drugs, has been revitalized since Okpomo took over its management two months ago.
“They sell all kinds of alcohol and other illicit drugs within the Cenotaph, and that’s why we took the step to evacuate them,” Okpomo explained. A luxury bus, previously housing three individuals, was also removed from the area.
Okpomo emphasized the importance of maintaining the Cenotaph’s ambience, as it serves as an emergency stadium for the governor’s programs and ceremonies. To ensure the facility doesn’t become a personal residence for individuals, regular clean-up exercises will be conducted.
Collaboration with the Waste Management Board is also key to keeping the state clean and promoting environmental sustainability, aligning with Oborevwori’s vision.
Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda focuses on Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security. His commitment to environmental sustainability is just one aspect of his comprehensive approach to governance, aiming to keep Delta State ahead in social and economic well-being.
