NGIJ Urges National Reflection, Prayers for Unity and Progress in Eid-el-Kabir Message

The Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ) has extended heartfelt felicitations to Muslims across the country and Nigerians at large on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir, calling for renewed prayers, national reflection, and a commitment to unity amid the country’s growing socio-economic challenges.
In a statement jointly signed by the Guild’s National President, Malam Abdulrahman Aliagan, and National Secretary, Mr. Rowland Olonishuwa, the NGIJ emphasized that the core values of Eid-el-Kabir—sacrifice, obedience, and unwavering faith in God—are critically relevant in Nigeria’s current realities.
“Eid-el-Kabir presents yet another opportunity for sober reflection and a recommitment to national values,” the statement read. “We urge Nigerians to seize the sacredness of the season to pray for our dear country, its leaders, and its people. Only through unity, selflessness, and collective responsibility can we overcome our challenges and build the Nigeria of our dreams.”

A Nation in Need of Healing
The NGIJ highlighted a number of persistent issues threatening the nation’s stability and development, including insecurity, youth restiveness, corruption, unemployment, economic hardship, poor governance, and decaying infrastructure. According to the Guild, these issues have led to a growing disconnect between the government and the governed, with public trust in institutions at an alarming low.
“The widening gap between government and citizens, coupled with declining public trust in institutions, calls for urgent and decisive action from all stakeholders,” the Guild warned.
Call for Inclusive Governance and Reforms
The NGIJ called on political leaders at all levels to embrace inclusive governance and equitable resource distribution. The Guild stressed that rebuilding Nigeria requires more than promises—it demands transparency, good leadership, and policies rooted in the realities of the Nigerian people.
“We believe that inclusive governance that respects diversity and actively engages all regions, genders, and age groups is key to a more stable and prosperous Nigeria. The time has come to move from rhetoric to actionable, people-focused policies that reflect the real needs of Nigerians.”
The Guild urged the government to prioritize job creation, support innovation and entrepreneurship, and increase investment in human capital development. Such measures, it said, are crucial to reversing poverty and driving national productivity.
Empowering the Youth
In a pointed message to the country’s youth, the NGIJ challenged young Nigerians to resist apathy, crime, and political manipulation. Instead, the Guild encouraged them to embrace education, skills development, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement.
“Young Nigerians must shun crime and political manipulation. Instead, they should embrace education, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement. The future belongs to them, and they must be ready to shape it with discipline and vision,” the statement read.
Prayers for Leaders and the Nation
The NGIJ concluded its message with prayers for the President, state governors, lawmakers, religious and traditional leaders, and all Nigerians. It asked for divine wisdom, courage, and compassion to guide those in leadership and healing for a country in need of unity and peace.
“As we celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, we pray for peace in every troubled region, healing for the sick, comfort for the bereaved, and divine guidance for all leaders and the led. May Allah bless Nigeria abundantly and guide us on the path of righteousness, unity, and shared prosperity,” the Guild stated.
