ENUGU, NIGERIA — The Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has commended the people of Enugu North Senatorial District for what it described as their exemplary conduct during Saturday’s senatorial bye-election, declaring the exercise peaceful, credible, free, and fair.
In a statement jointly signed by the Coordinator of CRPP, Chief Hon. Dr. Innocent Ezeoha, the Chairman, Chief Afam Ani, and the Secretary, Barr. Ken Ike, the coalition praised voters, electoral officials, security agencies, and political stakeholders for ensuring a smooth and orderly electoral process.
According to the coalition, the peaceful atmosphere that characterized the election demonstrated the democratic maturity of the electorate and reflected the growing commitment of the people to credible elections and good governance.
“The election was peaceful, credible, free and fair,” the coalition stated, adding that the conduct of the exercise should serve as a model for future elections in the state and across the country.
The coalition also congratulated Chief Ikeje Asogwa on his victory in the bye-election and urged him to embrace inclusive leadership in the discharge of his responsibilities as the representative of the district.
CRPP called on the senator-elect to be magnanimous in victory by carrying along all stakeholders, regardless of political affiliation, and focusing on policies and programmes that would advance the interests of the people of Enugu North Senatorial District.
“We congratulate Chief Ikeje Asogwa on his victory and urge him to be magnanimous in victory and provide excellent representation for the people,” the statement noted.
The coalition further appealed to other political parties and candidates who participated in the election to set aside partisan differences and work together in the interest of peace, unity, and development of the senatorial district.
It stressed that democratic growth is strengthened when political actors collaborate for the collective good rather than remain divided after elections.
The group also urged residents of Enugu State and Nigerians generally to emulate the peaceful conduct witnessed during the bye-election and replicate the same spirit of tolerance, civic responsibility, and respect for democratic processes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
CRPP reaffirmed its commitment to promoting electoral credibility, political stability, and democratic consolidation across Nigeria, expressing optimism that future elections would continue to reflect the will of the people.
Political observers have described the Enugu North senatorial bye-election as a significant test of democratic processes in the state, with the peaceful outcome receiving commendation from various stakeholders.
The coalition expressed hope that the lessons from the election would help strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system and encourage greater citizen participation in future polls.
