A prominent Lagos-based civil rights attorney and human rights activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, was arrested yesterday afternoon at his Lekki office by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Adegboruwa is being accused of obtaining money under false pretence by knowingly dealing in renting out a forfeited asset without due authorization.
He allegedly conspired with some other persons to lease a property situated at House 105 NICON Town Estate, Lekki Lagos, to one Shelf Drilling Nigeria Limited at the sum of N61, 631,944.65. The said money was credited to his Zenith Bank’s account, from where he disbursed the funds to others including churches.
EFCC officials said the legal practitioner acted illegally by leasing out a property which is a subject of an Interim Forfeiture Order made by Justice C. A. Balogun of a Lagos State High Court.
He is due to be arraigned alongside Jonathan Udeagbala before a Lagos Federal High court on Thursday.http://thestreetreporters.com/?p=5591The Street Reporters Newspaper is your BREAKING NEWS platform.
