The Enugu North Coalition for Good Governance Initiative (ENCGGI) has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to provide a clear and satisfactory explanation for the recent replacement of Dr. Daniel Ikechukwu Ugwuja, an esteemed indigene of Enugu North, as the Executive Director of Corporate Services for the South East Development Commission (SEDC).

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade James Ezema, the coalition noted that the “abrupt change has sparked significant concern and dismay within the Enugu North Senatorial District, also known as Nsukka zone.

“This decision is currently perceived as a continuation of the long-standing marginalization of our zone in terms of federal infrastructure and appointments. And Such actions undermine the principles of fairness and equity that are fundamental to our country’s unity and progress.

“We urge the Federal Government to address this issue promptly and transparently to give our people a sense of belonging as the people of Enugu North deserve to know the reasons behind this decision, which appears to disregard the contributions and qualifications of Dr. Ugwuja”, the ENCGGI said.

The Coalition maintained that “his removal and replacement from outside the zone is being perceived as a continuation of a long-held perception of conspiracy to limit the aspirations of our communities and a perpetuation of the historical neglect we have endured.”

The Coalition then appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration “to reconsider this decision and take concrete steps to reverse the perception of exclusion from federal presence in our zone.

“Enugu North is home to the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka, a beacon of academic excellence and national pride. It is imperative that the federal government recognizes and supports the development needs of this vital region.

“We call on the President to ensure that his administration does not join the list of those that have overlooked the legitimate interests of Enugu North. It is time to end the cycle of marginalization and foster an inclusive approach that values and uplifts every part of our country”, the Coalition concluded.
