Former Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr Festus Keyamo, are currently on a Twitter war over what the former Speaker described as a satire by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Speaker had responded to a tweet by the President in support of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dogara described it as a “Satire”, which sparked a response by Keyamo, a spokesman of the APC presidential campaign team, who told Dogara that his comment was beneath him as his mate in law school.
You can only imagine what Dogara fired back!
How It All Started With A President Muhammadu Buhari Tweet
President Muhammadu Buhari had tweeted, “Today in Lafia, Nasarawa State, I delivered my message: VOTE Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the next President of Nigeria, and VOTE Governor Abdullahi Sule for a 2nd term!
I have known Asiwaju for more than 20 years; he is a committed Nigerian; he will give his best to Nigeria!”.
In his reply, Dogara tweeted, “I know that PMB loves to crack jokes but I didn’t know he will escalate it to the level of satire. Asiwaju’ll give his best to Nigeria, really? Fake certificates, fake parentage, golden triangle escapades, racketeering. No, PMB, Nigeria does not deserve his best but we get the satire”, Dogara replied.
In a swift response, Keyamo fired back at Dogara, saying “My brother and law school mate, @YakubDogara, this tweet is beneath you. You are actually pained by the support of PMB for @officialABAT, two leaders who have stayed true to their beliefs and causes, unlike the political prostitute, wanderer & back-stabber that you’ve always been”.
In his friendly fire, Dogara shot at Keyamo, saying “My brother, I have a name for you but because it’s not a good one, I won’t say it as a cost of friendship. Yes, we were mates at Law School but I am waiting for you to win a councilorship election first so we can be mates in politics. Learn to punch below your weight category.”
But Keyamo returned the friendly fire five hours before press time, saying “My brother, it is sad you think everyone must be rated by elections won and lost. You’ve just insulted millions of Nigerians in their various fields of endeavour. Let me remind you that I’ve reached the height of our profession & you must learn to respect your senior at the bar!”
A response, if any, is being expected from the former Speaker who vowed not to support the Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Alhaji Kashim Shettima joint presidential ticket in protest over what has been described by opponents as insensitive Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.
Dogara is a member of the APC who defected to the party from the Peoples Democratic Party as a sitting Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2015 during the tenure of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
